6/30/2023 0 Comments Rook Di Goo by Jenni Sauer![]() ![]() She beautifully embodies the hurt-but-hopeful character, and she veers away from the traditional Cinderella while uncovering similar themes. The themes of found family, loss, and betrayal resonated so deeply, and I found myself empathizing with El more than I thought I could. And, it turns out, this book was the delightful experience I’d been wanting, made more so by the way it wasn’t held in by the geography of our world. ![]() But the fact that it was a sci-fi retelling of Cinderella and the way the author showed her investment and excitement for the story sold me on trying it. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect upon starting Rook Di Goo, what with the unusual but intriguing title (which, it turns out, comes from the original Cinderella) and my not having read anything by the author before. ![]()

The Great Depression of the 1930s deeply affected the United States economically as well as psychologically. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sheryl Sorrentino is also the author of The Floater. I enjoy Sorrentino’s witty writing style and wonder why such a gem in this literary world has not had her work turned into a movie or television series? Sorrentino’s work stands out because of her amazing ability to take risks that evoke intense reactions in the reader. Sorrentino boldly but sensitively addresses real life situations that have the reader engrossed in a dramatic and suspenseful plot. You would think that this would be a book by itself and then Sorrentino adds sexuality, 9/11, bigotry, racism and religion. Razia’s rebellion is something many young girls and mothers can relate to. This biracial 12 year-old preteen is being raised by her mother Sonya, who is also biracial. Sorrentino introduces us to individualistic performing arts student Razia. Stage Daughter tackles faith, sexuality, race and more (yes, more!). Her 4th and latest novel Stage Daughter stays in line with her previous work continuing to keep the reader engaged and connected to these interesting but fictional characters. It was through that experience that her passion and talent for writing bloomed and evolved into literary success. Acclaimed author Sheryl Sorrentino’s passion to write stemmed from a family tragedy. ![]() |
